The Department of Justice (DOJ) has now joined the Army acquisition mafia in attempting to deny America’s Grunts an honest chance for determining just what is the "best-available" body armor. In a flagrant abuse of discretionary authority, the DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs has intervened in an unprecedented way to promote and support the obstructionism of the Army’s acquisition mafia — the common objective being to prevent Pinnacle Armor’s Dragon Skin body armor from receiving a full and fair technical assessment.

Through its subordinate office, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), OJP has demonstrated an appalling willingness to sacrifice its heretofore vaunted reputation for scientific objectivity for some hidden bureaucratic agenda that places the lives of domestic law enforcement officials in severe jeopardy.

Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd. (Haifa, Israel) has introduced a very interesting next-generation multi-threat passive/reactive add-on armor system for vehicles called M-TAPS, which stands for "Multi-Threat Armor Protection System". M-TAPS is designed/developed to protect Israeli infantry warfighters (a.k.a. soldiers) against the same lethal trifecta–IEDs, EFPs, and RPGs–as the Urban Fighter’s armor suite, only the Rafael system (M-TAPS) looks like it may be even more advanced and capable (unconfirmed/unverified). The Peltor Tac 7 SHOOTING HEARING PROTECTION uses the same circuitry discussed above, only with a single volume control that is connected to the opposite ear cup by a wire. The obvious disadvantage of this arrangement is adjustability of both sides in the event the wearer has hearing loss in one or both ears. The NRR on the Tac 7 is 24. The Attack Time is 5 Milliseconds. We have also been advised the battery life is 45 to 50 hours max.

Subsonic rounds have a Ruger 10/22 stock of 330 m/s (1082 ft/s) or less and are sometimes equipped with an extra heavy,46-61grains 2.9-3.9 gram bullet. Conversely, some rounds contain little more than primer and an extra-light bullet. Subsonic rounds are especially favored for their perceived improved target accuracy, and for hunting. As the speed of sound in air at 20 °C (68 °F) is approximately 343.4 m/s (1126 ft/s), the subsonic round’s muzzle velocity is close to the speed of sound under many hunting conditions, or only very slightly below it. However, under cold air conditions at 0 °C (32 °F), the speed of sound drops to 331.5 m/s (1087.6 ft/s), essentially the same speed as the muzzle velocity of the subsonic round. Hence, a so-called subsonic round when used under slightly colder conditions than 0 °C (32 °F) is often no longer subsonic and instability may arise when crossing down through the speed of sound, reducing accuracy. To counteract this, some cartridge manufacturers have lowered the speed of their subsonic ammunition to 315 m/s (1030 ft/s) or significantly less, while other manufacturers still sell subsonic ammunition with a velocity only slightly under 330 m/s(1082 ft/s). Subsonic rounds do not work well in all semi-automatic .22 LR firearms, often failing to cycle the action.
