# Mary Mary Quite Contrary buys an AR-15 Accessories lower from her dealer who purchased it 7 years ago, built it into a SAW 2 weeks later, and in January ’96 tore it apart to sell as components. Did she buy a pre-ban receiver? Yes… it was a SAW before The Date.

Five gun salute
Judicial liberals have been discovering the virtues of legal precedent now that conservatives are finally winning a few cases at the Supreme Court, but in yesterday’s major gun rights case that all went out the window. The four liberal Justices rejected a 2008 landmark precedent as well as one of their own bedrock Constitutional principles. This suggests that the liberals have decided to bide their time and wait for a fifth vote so they can overturn both Heller and McDonald. This means that the matter of Second Amendment rights is far from settled, and the National Rifle Association and other advocates had better keep their legal guard up.

Chicago: On gun control, there’s the Constitution and there’s Daley’s rules
As Independence Day approaches, let’s remember that our Founding Fathers created a marvelous document to protect individual freedoms from the aggressions of government. We call this the Constitution. But along The Chicago Way, there is another text, full of decrees. The dusty scroll must be buried deep in a vault at City Hall, because few, if any, have ever seen it.

Thomas springs to life in support of gun rights for blacks
He hardly ever speaks during oral arguments, often appearing asleep on the bench. But in his written opinion Monday supporting the right to bear arms, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas roared to life. Referring to the disarming of blacks during the post Reconstruction era, Thomas wrote: “It was the ‘duty’ of white citizen ‘patrols to search negro houses and other suspected places for firearms.’ If they found any firearms, the patrols were to take the offending slave or free black ‘to the nearest justice of the peace’ whereupon he would be ‘severely punished.’ ” Never again, Thomas says.

Lott: Supreme Court gun ban ruling can make us all safer
In a sharply divided 5 4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled Monday that state governments are not able to ban most Americans from owning most types of handguns. The majority decision, written by Justice Samuel Alito, stated that firearms are “essential for self defense.” Predictably, gun control advocates bemoaned the ruling. But the court’s decision is not just correct on constitutional grounds. It will help make the country safer.

NRA comes out against Kagan
The National Rifle Association on Thursday publicly opposed the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, telling senators their votes could affect whether the group endorses them for re-election.

Chicago’s gun ban unravels
City Hall is rewriting Chicago’s gun ordinance to tighten registration requirements in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling Monday that crippled the city’s handgun ban and granted citizens across the country the right to legally keep weapons in their home for protection.
